What are 'motivators'
We came up with the idea of using motivators from knowing that weight-loss can be very difficult. Motivation is such a key part that's why we've devised a unique way of allowing others to spur you on.
The idea of a motivator is someone who you think will help keep you on track to reach your weight loss goal. These 'motivators' can be friends, family, colleagues - anyone you want. They will then receive weekly email updates detailing how you're progressing. Of course you can choose what you want to tell them in these emails each week or if you don't want any motivators right now, that's fine! So if you're not doing too great or if you're slacking, your motivator will find out. On the other hand, if you're excelling they'll be the first ones to congratulate you!
Choosing your motivator
You can choose up to 4 people who you would like to keep updated on your weight-loss progress when you first sign up. Simply enter their names and emails in the fields. If you only want one motivator, that's fine. You can always add more later on
What information will my motivators see?
That's up to you. When you sign up you can choose what you want to show them each week in their email update: either your exact weight and weekly change, or just your weeky change (e.g. lost 9lb). They'll also get three little graphs
- Training - this will show how many calories you burned during each logged workout and plot it over time
- Diet - your 'Diet Score' will be plotted over time
- Weight Change - this will display how you weight has altered (if you've specified not to show them exact figures, we'll just show them a trend)
They'll also see your specially designated
'motivator comment' that you've entered on your Times Health Club page. For more information, please see
'Creating your weekly motivator comment' below.
Your motivators can log into their own Times Health Club account, view who they're motivating and also contact you via their message page
How often do they receive email updates?
Your motivators will receive an email update of your progress once a week
Creating your weekly motivator comment
As mentioned above, each week your motivators will receive an update on your progress. They'll see your graphs and also one of your comments you enter on your Times Health Club page (if you've added one)
You'll see there's a checkbox next to 'Attach this to this week's Motivator Report?'. If you check this, that post will then become the comment used on your motivator's weekly email. Adding a comment to your profile page is a great way to let your motivators know how you did this week.
You can summarize your progress, tell your motivators how great you're feeling or where you're struggling and comment on areas where you'd like some extra support. Remember, stating and sharing your goals regularly is a great motivator for long term success!
I don't have any motivators. How do I add one?
When you log into your Times Health Club account, you'll see in the bottom left a 'Motivator' panel. Here you will see a button 'Add a Motivator'. Clicking this will bring up a new window where you can either 'Find a motivator from Times Health Club' or 'Add an external motivator'.
The first option will take you to the 'Find Motivators' page where you can browse all available motivators and see their profiles.
If you would like to request one of these people to be your motivator, simple click the contact button and drop them an email.
They can accept your request just by logging into their account and clicking the 'Accept Invitation' button in their message area.
By clicking 'Add an external motivator', you can choose someone to motivate you who is not already a member of Times Health Club (e.g. a member of your family or a friend). They'll then be invited to sign up for a special Times Health Club motivator account.
What if someone's asked me to be their motivator?
If someone has chosen you as their motivator, you will be asked to confirm via email that you want to accept their invitation. If you're not already a Times Health Club member, we'll ask you to create an account and you'll then be able to view their details and also keep in touch via your message page.
Can I be motivated by someone AND be a motivator?
Yes! Even if you're trying to lose weight yourself, you can still motivate and inspire others to do the same on Times Health Club. In your account area on the bottom right you'll see a special link 'Be a Motivator Yourself'. If you click this you can then choose to be listed on our Motivator Page where other members can browse your profile and ask you to motivate them.
How do I stop being someone's motivator?
If for any reason you would like to stop motivating someone, you can do so by clicking the red delete icon in the motivator panel (in the bottom left of your account area). You'll then be promoted to confirm your decision and if you click yes, you'll no longer be able to see their progress or receive email updates.
