I've lost 6lbs as of today - as yet I haven't noticed any benefits but given time I'm sure I will.

Likewise 6lbs, about which I am delighted.
I expected the hunger pangs to be quite unpleasant but they haven't, even though I've cut my food intake by at least a third. I've also replaced nibbles with celery, grapes, etc. It's good not to go bed feeling stuffed!
I'm heavily into cycling (particularly long distance) but normally only between April and October. New Year's Resolution was keep going all year round except in the very worst conditions. The extra exercise has been wonderful and has contributed significantly to both weight loss and well-being.
My BMI is at the top end of overweight, but that's partly because my leg muscles are on the hefty side.

Bit of a duplication from another thread but I'm very proud of myself! 6lbs for me too! I'm feeling really good with it too. I'm sure I don't look any different really but I feel my self-confidence and self-esteem has improved and I feel I'm sleeping better to boot!
My diet has changed in that I'm checking portion sizes, upping fruit and veg intake, ignoring all sweet stuff apart from Muller Light Yogurts and Medjool dates and seeing what food groups I should be having more of or what can help me to improve eg oily fish, more pulses etc. I love to cook so this gives me another opportunity for experimentation or simply cooking healthy versions of things I already enjoy. I'm also writing a food diary so I can keep track.
I'm exercising at the gym 3 times a week and walk to and from Charing Cross to my office in Mayfair each weekday. I'm also trying to do a bit of Wii Sports as well (I love the tennis).
Oh and I'm getting loads of support and motivation from my family, friends and work colleagues who ask me what I've been doing. I think that just about covers it!

I have been really good (controlled calorie intake, exercise) for 9 days now (with the exception of one day - my Dad's 60th - but I was restrained with the booze!) ... but NO WEIGHT LOSS. Which is disheartening, just a little movement in the right direction would be encouraging... sigh.

Samantha,
Thank you, it has been a bit of a challenge. I do of course love fish so I am hoping to get loads of variety. I must say that I have been really good with the wine, having said that getting in from the office today I have been tempted with the thought of having a glass, maybe I can talk myself out of it. Desserts I have opted for a fruit plate with some sorbet, not sure if I am cheating.
Tomorrow is my weigh in..........................Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. I have no idea what to expect........................I am hoping that I did well.

Hi all, nice to hear that so many are doing well - special WELL DONE to Sam. I've had a blip this week already as had a a family trauma. I had guesstemated my weight at 18st 10lbs and was going to clarify this at the slimming club on Monday but didn't get there due to family issue. Am definately going to Rosemary Connelly group on Monday and trying desperately not to eat for England in preparation for starting the diet on Monday!!

Joanne
Sometimes if you eat the same foods all the time it can cause you to plateau. Try varying your diet a little and you maybe surprised by the results. Also have you measured yourself at all? Sometimes you don't lose weight but lose inches.
Good luck

Im no expert but I reckon your weight stabalises and is distributed differently plus the more active you are, muscle weighs more than fat.

Hi Joanne
I'm not sure why that is but I have proved it.
As for muscle weighing more than fat - yes that is true - but you have to be very lean and have very little body fat for that to actually make any difference. In someone overweight it is definitely the fat that is the problem and not the muscle (sorry guys) An overweight person could I think burn up more calories when exercising simply because they are carrying around more bulk making the heart and lungs work harder (I may be wrong here please correct me if that is the case) - which is probably why we sweat much more easily when we exert ourselves.
I'm certainly not a diet and health expert - well if I was would I really be here now trying to lose weight?

Hi Joanne,
Remember that your weight can go up and down by at least 7lbs just because of differences in the amount of water in your body. You often lose weight when you start to diet mainly because of water loss, then it goes back on. But long term you will win if you keep it up. The slower you lose fat, the more likely you are to keep it off.

I've lost 3lbs, but it's been quite slow - losing one, then adding one, even though I'd been good. I must admit that I feel a bit thinner, so perhaps tomorrow the scales will agree!
Congratulations Sam on becoming regular!

Hi guys,
I've been going for just over 2 weeks now and lost 8lb in total (5lb in the first week - mostly water, and 3lb in the second week). Hoping to have a 2lb a week loss from here on in.
To do this, I've cut out all my bad foods, sticking to smaller portions in the evening, and I do some exercise every day (currently alternating a session on the rowing machine with two different weights workouts and crunches) - only take 20 minutes a day, but is making a difference to how I feel, and beginning to make a difference to how I look too.
It's a long, hard slog, and as my motivator Jim says, it's sometimes difficult to see weightloss as the amount of water you have on board varies so much, but stick to the plan and you'll see success.
The plateau thing is certainly a big issue - by dieting, we're fighting the human body's underlying plan of hoarding these calories for when there's a famine - and being on a diet only proves that your body is right so it does sneaky tricks like lower your metabolic rate, making you less active, and craving calorific foods all the more. That's when you really need the will-power, to continually challenge yourself with harder workouts (longer walks, runs, or whatever floats your boat), and sticking to the healthy, sensible diet without weakening.
Isn't theory a marvellous thing! Practice, however, is that bit more difficult!
But with help from our motivators, friends & family, and this group, there's no reason why we can't all lose this dreaded 4 stone burden!

Hi everyone
I've managed to lose 5 lb in 19 days, which I am delighted with. At the moment, I am concentrating on cutting out snacks and increasing my exercise (I am already a keen walker - but trying to walk faster, and do longer daily walks with the dog). My target is 4 stone, but separating into 1 stone targets. My idea is that when my weight loss begins to plateau (and my body has adapted to doing without snacks), I will start on portion control. And then maybe tackle a diet - Slimming World one looks tempting. I want to change my eating habits permanently, and am happier with slow but steady progress rather than dramatic 7 lb losses in one week.

Well done Catherine on what you have lost. From your picture you don't look as you have a huge amount to lose - if that is the case that may be why you've only lost the 4lbs - I think the bigger you are to begin with the bigger the losses are to begin with - the important bit is that you have lost. Keep going

Hi I have lost 4lbs in three weeks which I am pleased with. I lost 2lbs on the first week, nothing the week after and 2lbs this week.
Talking to people last week thing I probably put muscle on though as even though no weight loss my clothes are much looser and clothes i have not worn in years are now fitting me (just that is).
Going to keep up the fitness and I think god is smiling down on me as in my local paper they are starting Ladies Only Kickboxing classes again, which is one exercise I love so hopefully shedding more pounds soon.

Hi Fiona
4lbs is a great loss. Unfortunately muscle weight according to someone I know is a personal trainer is unlikely to affect us when we have weight to lose - you have to be very lean and very little body fat for that to make much difference. However, you've clearly lost it in inches - not sure why it happens but sometimes we don't lose weight but if we also measure ourselves and check from time to time we can see dramatic changes - which is encouraging when we find we stick for a few weeks. Keep going with your exercise though because it will only help with your weight loss.
Good luck for the week coming

I've lost 3lbs in 3 weeks, which is fine as I don't have a lot to lose.
My reason for being here is to get fit, which is going well. I finished cancer treatment in March last year and it's amazing how long it takes to get any energy back.
I bought a pilates dvd and have been doing that, and have also been able to go for more walks with the dog. My hope is that by getting fitter through exercise I will then be able to do more with the rest of my day/life.

Sorry - I thought this was just for posting results. Only after posting I saw at the top it says '4 stone to go'.
I find this site quite obscure to navigate.

I haven't weighed myself in a week because of the lack of results I was experiencing (see earlier in the thread!) and I didn't want this to further put me off. Not sure when I will weigh myself next, I'm feeling fitter but difficult to tell if any size difference. I have a stone to lose to normalise my BMI, I'm trying so hard and I hope it pays off! Well done to everyone who's been achieving, it must be really satisfying.

I wish i could not weigh myself every week but I have to otherwise i will lose track of my weight loss and probably put weight back on, that is what usually happens.
I am readin Paul McKEnna book and he asks people not to weigh more than every three weeks. Good luck for your last stone I still have 4 to lose.

I`ve lost 5 lbs since starting at the beginning of the month, but I don`t hold out much hope of a loss for this weekend even though I`ve been "good". I suppose there`s a possibility that I may get a surprise though! I`m aiming to lose at least a stone in total, but I don`t mind if it comes off slowly, as long as it comes off rather than goes on!
