Hi,
Does anyone know if you burn more calories during your morning workout if you've had breakfast before hand or not ?

I was reading an article about a Triathlete who does his first training session of the day pre-breakfast as it burns more calories.

Thanks

If you exercise before breakfast you will burn more fat as that is really the only energy source your body has available. But, if you ate first, you would have more energy and might therefore work out at a greater intensity or for longer, thereby burning more calories overall.

I don't think the actual number of calories burned changes, but where they come from does, if you see what I mean.

Thanks, that makes sense.

So the decision to eat breakfast or not is based on the desired result from the workout.
Don't eat and burn fat, but maybe not perform as well.
Eat and have a better workout but not burn as much fat.

I'm sure I read that if you eat after exercise the food gets used up much quicker than normal. Because of that I usually eat after I've been swimming. When I did the swimathon (100 lengths) a few weeks ago, I was advised to have lots of carbs 2 hours before and that gave me so much energy.
