Hi all, Im a real newbie! I've always struggled a little with my weight since childhood but lost 2 stone with Weightwatchers a few summers ago and felt fantastic. I've tried going back but not found any of my local classes friendly or inspiring. My food issues are definitely portion related.. I think I need as much to eat when I'm serving up as my 6 ft 4 boyfriend and I'm only 5'3 but I need about half, and even worse I'll eat seconds sometimes. I want to lose around 3 stone and am refusing to get engaged till I feel better about myself.

What I really would love is to chat to people on here, get inspired and perhaps even take up recommendations on local fun exercise classes etc. I dont really want to pay for a gym as I wont go on my own much and as I commute (over 2 hours a day) it seems silly, gyms in central London are so expensive. I live near Harefield/ Northwood/ Ruislip so any walkers or exercise bunnies, please get in touch!

I might have alot of weight to lose but I'm good at disgusing it which isnt helping as people keep saying I'm just curvy! I'm not- I want to be a size 10 when I get married!

Hope to hear from some of you soon!

Ambitious but motivated Sinead x

Welcome Sinead - why don't you have a look at the Ab Fab U Less group? We're very chatty and you'll spend so much time reading up on all the gossip that you won't have time to eat!

Where do you work in London? Do you get out at lunchtime? There are lots of nice parks that you could have a brisk walk round during your lunch-hour.

I find this site far more encouraging than going to classes. Look forward to hearing more from you.

Fiona

I do actually work really near Regents Park.. well about a 10 minute walk. Maybe I should force myself to walk there on Monday and have a wander! I spend too many lunchtimes sitting in the office chatting! If its sunny, I'm much more inclined to head out but no one at work will move off their bums! We even have a sandwich man who comes in and delivers your lunch into your hand! Its terrible really. I'm determined though to change some habits and didnt want to start in January as knew I'd be really fed up by now! Thank you for your response, I will take a look at that group now! x

If you have the room for it a cross-trainer gets a good sweat up, and it doesn't matter what the weathers like. You can also do it at a time that suits you.

Easily done. Promise you'll have at least a ten minute walk every day before you allow yourself to have lunch.
Are the sandwiches low-cal? Or smothered in mayo? You might think about making your own to take in. Only takes 5 mins in the morning if you're organised.

Sinead
Welcome! Have you tried low carb diet look on Pig2twig forum or by the Idiot Diet Book by as mentioned. Drink lots of water, buy a pedometer and try to walk as much as you can now the weather is better and explore Regents Park. Little steps to start with try 10 mins and then increase or just walk the streets where you live. Cut out alcohol as it is full of calories hard but worth it.

Anyway good luck!

Pippa

Hi Pippa, I have tried low carb but as a veggie I rely on carbs to fill up and when its cold and miserable I need carbs to give me a boost as I cant face cold salads and there's only so much soup I can take! I havent even managed to get out one lunch yet this week as we have just been too busy so not good! I feel like I'm barely moving! I really need to find either a walking partner for evenings or an exercise class so I'm really working my body at least once or twice a week. I tried to get to Slimming World last night but trains were awful and was almost 40 mins late and couldnt face going in! Really need a big kick! x

Hi Sinead,

I too am 5 ft 3 with a 6 ft 4 boyfriend!

And I do find that I need, literally, about half what he eats (though he could stand to lose a few stone himself, so perhaps I should start dishing up less for him too ...)

Is there any way you can get some exercise as part of your commute? It sounds like it'd be too far to cycle the whole way, but perhaps you could get off a tube stop or two earlier and walk?

You might like my site, www.theofficediet.com -- I post an article every day, and it's aimed at busy desk-based workers who struggle with all the usual temptations of the office and the lack of time in the day!

Best,

Ali

I think you're right Sinead - I'm veggie too and I don't think pig2twig is the ideal diet for us.

If Weightwatchers worked for you before why not try it again? You can join online and use the weight tracker and points tracker etc. - you don't have to go to classes and it's cheaper (especially if you sign up for 3 months at a time).

Here's the link ... URL

I suffer with a bit of mental health and have done for nearly 2 and a half years! (paranoia and depression). I have only decided to get healthy because I'm called fat by my dad and his mates but more by my dad. I am currently trying to get down to either a 10 or 12 to stop people from calling me fat and so I can feel better for it! Today I have eaten a tuna and mayo cob from the newsagent. I am not feeling good today but I do have my bottle of water with me that I got from greggs! last tuesday along with a small tub of fruit and a sarnie! I have also got 3 portions of fruit. and a bag of quavers! Sorry to all.

No saying sorry - well done for getting on here! Get out of bed 15 minutes earlier, and before showering or breakfast, throw on some clothes and go for a brisk walk around the block/park. (If you shower etc first, you'll only waste the time faffing - mornings are sloooooww times, at least for me). It'll kick start your day, get your metabolism going, and wake up those bleary eyes!
Keep tracking your progress on this, it'll be a great motivator.

I want to be a size 10 when I get married!

Go Sinead, you can do it. The advice everyone here has given is really good. Try to add as much movement as possible per day and wearing a pedometer will encourage you with that. Little things like taking the stairs, getting off the tube a stop or so earlier, also going out somewhere at lunch for your sandwich. this will; give you fresh air, exercise and a mental break and your work sounds stressful! Stress is bad for the wasistline (and for everything else really!)

One of the things I would like to do is fit into the suit in which I was married.

Had about 2St 6lbs to loose and I have lost 1 St 1lb. The first half came off real easy but I seem to have lost the way since then, it gets a bit tedious, continuously saying "I can't eat that" to myself.

Any support welcome, as I am feeling a bit down, and need a kick start again.

A big slice of motivation needed, with no cream or coffee and biscuits to follow. The kids chocolates at Easter did not help either.

You've come to the right place Paul. We all feel like that - some more often than others - but log on here and just have a read at some of the things people are saying. It'll give you a laugh if nothing else, and keep myou away from the kitchen!
