How long can you store a smoothie for once you've made it ?
I'm thinking of trying them for breakfast but would need to make them the night before.
Does anyone have a recipe for a breakfast smoothie ? Would like to inclued oats or museli if possible.

Simon, I cheat and buy the Innocent smoothies as they seem very wholesome and don't contain any 'nasties'. I get the detox one and it seems to last ok in the fridge for a week.
Let me know any recipes though - maybe I can be converted.

I think that they are best drank as soon as possible after making. The ones you buy in the shops have additives in them to keep them fresh, but the ones you make are just pure juice/fruit. Oxidisation occurs almost immediately. Within half an hour the goodness starts to deteriorate.
Having said that, if you refrigerate and add a little lemon juice (natural preservative) you might be OK for a while. Overnight might be a long time though. My friend brings them to work, but she drinks them only a couple of hours after making them.
Can you not have all your ingredients prepared (not chopping apples etc though because they would deteriorate) and ready the night before and then just blitz them in the morning? That shouldn't take too long and you'll get all the goodness from it. I make mine with a handblender, so all you would need to do is throw in the fruit and stuff, blitz, pour into a glass and put the blender attachment in soak so the fruit doesn't dry all over it.
As for recipes, I just experiment - you can add a tablespoon of oats if you want something more filling. If you make something especially tasty, write it down, because you are sure to forget what you put in it!
Try freezing strawberries or blueberries and adding some of these - it makes it extra cold and slushy. Yum.

How about this from the Times 28 day diet :
Breakfast super blend
Blend 100g of strawberries, a ripe peach (remove stone), 150g skimmed milk, 1 tbsp of oat bran and 1 tsp of runny honey. Blitz to your preferred consistency and drink. The more bubbles you can introduce when blending the more filling this smoothie will be. Serve with a handful of chopped almonds.

One smoothie recipe I tried and love is with Blueberries, strawberry,Bannan
and figs then add soya milk but you can use what milk you like.
Another one is handful of Blackberries&blueberries,1 mango,5,tablespoons(75ml) of natural yogurt,6,tablespoons(90ml)guava juice mix in a smoothie maker or with a hand-blender.brilliant for your skin,Immunity and energy.
Here's one to wake you up in morning 2, bananas,1 pear,1 orange, 8, tablespoons (120 ml) apple juice its quick and easy a brilliant energy drink.
One more before I go another good energy smoothie is 1,banana,1/2 pineapple,8,tablespoons (120 ml) pineapple juice,2,tablespoons(30 ml) coconut milk,1 heaped teaspoon of spirulian.
There's loads more that Ive try and tested but I think Its time I went to bed. give them a go they are gorgeous. bye for now. Rosie

I usually drink mine straight away but you can store just add the juice of lemon like terresa said and put in a sealed container in the fridge or in a thermos flask.

The frozen black and red fruits you can buy in supermarkets make really good smoothies that dont; take too long to prepare, and it;s nice and cold, as does fruit inned in own juice, Maybe add a bit of honey or huice from the tin. I also usually add water. For a very quick fruit smoothie, I add a couple of tablespoons of high juice, which also provides the sweetness.
