Has anyone tried Paul McKennas 'I can make you thin' method of weight loss? Thats what I'm starting and wondered if it works for others?

I have used it. Have you read the book yet? It's very down to earth and common sense. The hypnosis cd was nice to relax to, but I don't use it any more.

I hate the title! I have no desire whatsoever to be thin, just slimmer.

I watched the TV programmes and have read the book. I think the hypnosis is very way out and not necessary but the golden rules are very useful in re programming yourself regarding food and emotions

Yes, I'm still trying it after several months. Haven't actually lost much weight on it but it does make complete sense. I do still stick to the rules though. Well kind of. I like it as it is a change of lifestyle and re educating yourself to eating and habits rather than about dieting. Been there, done that and I resolve never to starve myself again or even deny myself of food that I rather enjoy. It's all about moderation and listening to your body rather than counting calories. You eat what you want at first and then simply stop when you are satisfied. It's great! Anyway, I agree with you too Debbie. I don't want to be thin either. Just slimmer. I don't like the title either. It conjures up societies pressure to be as thin as a rake. No thanks.

I've started using the cd and am getting good results, in that i dont eat until i feel hungry and have stopped snacking all the time at work. i even eat my food slower which is quite surreal. the cd also suggests that you will enjoy doiing regular exercise which is true, i have itchy feet if i dont go for a walk or do something active.. i have found the cd so much more helpful than the book because i think i have read too many diet books!

I have been following it for about a year and it has changed my life. My life revolved around food and cravings which have now disappeared. I think listening to the CD is something which you have to do but reading the book is a must.

I now have no cravings or hang ups about food and realised that losing weight and feeling great is more about state of mind than dieting.

Let me know how you get on - I would say 100% give it a try.

I have just read the book and started doing what he says also have just got the new 90 day journal that goes with it and so far I am feeling very motivated. The journal keeps me focused.
Love the idea that nothing is banned from eating except DIET foods as he thinks it's better to have what you really want as long as you can honestly say you really want it ,then make sure you really enjoy eating it.
The cd that comes with the book is also very inspiring

I went to one of his seminars a couple of years ago. Whilst I was at the venue and soon after, I bought into the whole thing but I now think the main beneficiary is Paul McKenna himself. There were a number of alternative therapists at the venue who were associates of Paul and they were all very keen to promote their particular interest. I am a bit of a sceptic and the whole thing made me feel like a gullible fool. I don't like the mystical aspect that Paul promotes.
Sorry to sound off, but I have always felt cheated by the whole thing. I felt it was a complete scam!

I have to say that whenever I attempt to listen to one of Paul McK's CDs I can't get past his annoying voice with that overly put on slowed down gimmicky voice thing. Is it just me or does that bother anyone else?

I tried it a couple of years ago and lost quite a bit of weight. When you're following it, it certainly feels very natural. I did come to know the cd so well though that after a while it sort of became white noise to me and I went off it. I think some of the basic principles have stayed with me though - I am more aware of when I'm full for example and the practise of that thought process came from the book and cd. Anyway, definitely worth trying.

I agree Paul benefits from it but so do people who do it and I never regret paying £8 to try something which ok has not yet lost me much weight but stopped me from being someong obsessed with food and worried about eating anything that I fancied to someone who yes is still overweight but have no obsessions about any food anymore and whilst maintaining my weight for a year can now go on this year to lose the 4 stone I need to and raise money for charity in the process so I for one do not say anything but "Thank You" to Mr McKenna.

I was sceptical but it is still the best think I have ever invested in and I like the CD and try to listen to it before I get up in the morning at least I wake up refreshed rather than tired.

i have listened to the cd etc but really all he is saying is common sense which we already know.

eat less, exercise more, don't stuff at meals etc

however i am a firm believer in - if it works for you then that is great, whatever it may be.

we are all different, but how about seeing if the library have this in to try before you buy??

self hypnosis can be very powerful and very easy to do - just a suggestion.

I bought the book just over a year ago and although everything he had to say made sense it really did not work for me.

Has anyone tried" You Can be Thin "by Marissa Peer? It has wonderful reviews on Amazon and seems to be in the same vein as McKenna. I cannot wait to purchase it if only (pray) it will be an end to me binging on bread!

hi fleur

sorry but to be truthful whatever we buy or whatever diet we go on it is all down to willpower.

you cannot be hypnotized against your will so although it can help to strengthen your resolve it will not stop you doing all the daft things we do.

anything that may help you is good though, so give it a try and let us all know how it goes.

good luck

Thanks Looby. I really know that in my heart but am hoping for an easier solution. Maybe before I read Marissa's book (I bought it today) I should read "WillPower" by Gillian Riley.... another in my vast library of self help books.

I will let you know in time how I get on. It looks pretty good though.

FLEUR - cut out the middleman and go striaght to Marrisa Peer. Below is a response to my e-mail enquiring about her services. I was impressed after watching Anna Richardson's response to hynotherapy on 'superskinny v supersize'.

Thank you for you enquiry. If you call my office on 0207 371 9367 we can arrange an appointment for you or answer any questions you might have. My practice is in Fulham SW London. A session is 90 minutes long and I take appointments on weekdays until 6.00 and on some Saturday mornings. Most sessions include a CD the cost is £250.00

It doesn't say how many sessions one needs, and the cost is probably less than some of the treatments we've all tried and hey it includes a CD

I guess if these things really worked there'd be no fat people and not rich publishers. What do you think? Is it worth a go?!!

it is very easy and very persuasive to make your own hypnotherapy tape.

basically work out what you want to say to yourself, encouraging etc and then speak slowly and clearly and make it even nicer by recording a piece of relaxation music at the same time.

you need to start by telling yourself to relax and make the words positive not negative. e.g i will do ........ rather than i won't do..........

if nothing else if you feel like a pig out you can put your tape on first and listen and then by the time it's finished you may have changed your mind.

did start training in hypnotherapy and made some tapes myself for other issues, but now i come to think of it i shall make another one later today doing exactly this!!

why didn't i think of it before?

oops nearly forgot - don't forget to tell yourself to come out of this state at the end!!!

Hi :
I have 3 of his CDS. 'Sleep like a log', ' I can make you thin', 'Change your life in 7 days'.
I find as a life long insomniac that the sleeping one makes me fall asleep quicker and stay asleep for about 4-5 hours ( I also suffer from sleep apnea and wear that awful CPAP mask over my face at nite ). Has not made me get 8 hours yet, but I do see improvement.
I was starting to see improvement with the weight loss on, but I do not listen to that every day as I should and as such have fallen off the proverbial wagon. Must start listening to it every day.
I agree about the title though. I do not want to be thin, skinny or boyish. I like being a woman, just would like to be less of one !! lol.

I bought the book and CD about 6 weeks ago. I love being able to eat whatever I want, except diet foods! I need to give myself more time to listen to the CD as it really does me the world of good - at the least to switch off and relax at the end of the day.
Am far more aware of being full, and rarely 'stuff' myself anymore.
Am also very motivated to eat healthy foods and love the freedom of not writing everything down - am far leass obsessed by food these days.

I've been watching him on youtube. Seems to make sense to me. What does he say on the CD's that is not on the show? Does he have more than those 4 golden rules!

I did find the book helpful and did occasionally listen to the CD. I'm a bit sceptical about the hyponsis thing, but it does talk basic common sense.

I had hypnosis for weight loss in November, and it has had a huge impact on me. It involved aversion therapy, healthy eating suggestion to my unconscious and image therapy. Like every one else, I know what I should be doing, but struggled to do it!. This seemed to help me get my head in the right place, and more importantly, despite only having 2 sessions, it has stayed there. I have lost 2 1/2 stone in total since then, and while I know the scientific evidence base is sketchy, i would recommend it. Nothing can lose weight for you, it's still me making choices about what I eat, I just no longer seem to be in thrall to food. Weird..... but good!

Hi Joanne. I don't know if you've tried the Paul Mckenna cds and book but if you have was wondering if your hypnosis session was stonger than his cds? I mean was it longer lasting with you or did you feel that you needed to see the hypnotherapist more than once? Well done on losing 2 1/2 stone by the way that's really good going.

I had 1 very intense session concentrating on aversion therapy, body image and "good eating"messages, the other session concentrated on self esteem, and trying to get to the bottom of my weight problem, which I didn't really benefit from and was quite uncomfortable. havent listened to Paul McK, but friends describe bits of it as similar. Have always been quite sceptical of this type of thing, but I have to say it was well worth the £50, even if it just kick started my own will power.
