Hi, I'm new here and it is all very intersting reading.
I only want to lose somewhere up to half a stone, but my main target is to get back the little 6 pack I used to have until a couple of years ago.
Anyway, I am now mainly vegetarian, which means I have to source my proteins well etc. and I love pasta / rices / vegetables / carbs in general. I found it interesting what you've all been saying about the Atkins Diet and the Neris / India diet (which I've not heard of before, but will look up).
The only time in my life I've ever decided to constructively "go on a diet" was about 30 years ago, when I went to buy a pair of jeans and found I'd gone up nearly 2 sizes !!
I had read something about a non-carb diet and set myself at it with a vengeance. I was still a meat eater then, and so I set myself 3 simple rules for a month - 1) eat no root, seed or grain products. 2) Eat as much protein as you like - meat / fish but not too much dairy protein. 3) Eat as many "above soil- level" vegetables as you like.
I dropped down the 2 sizes in less than a month and would love to do it again, except of course I am vegetarian now !!
Anyway, best of luck to everyone with your challenges and goals.

Hello Frances
Do look up (in fact, buy or borrow) Neris & India Idiot Proof Diet: it has plenty of vegetarian options, and there are quite a few vegetarians on the pig 2 twig forum.
Personally, for the sake of variety, I also bought R. Elliot's "The vegetarian low-carb dieter", which may be of interest to you. But, seriously Frances, you are one lucky girl to just have half a stone to lose!
You sort out your six-pack with exercise, I would imagine.
What I should stress is that low-carbing is a way of eating for life, and that it works.
Best wishes
Paola

I agree with Paola. Hello Frances low carbing is the way to go and there are examples in the IPD book as mentioned. Good luck anyway

I've been low carbing for near on 5 years now and love it. High days and holidays I fall off the wagon, put on a few pounds then get straight back to it and loose the excess.
I love the The pig2twig recipes as they cater for the UK taste buds and are also family friendly.

Carbs cause an increase in available serotonin in your brain synapses.
That is why they are so addictive.
Just cutting out 5 things: sugars/sweeteners; flour products; potatos; rice; and corn, is 90% of the whole low carb thing.
I think that if you can handle saying "no" to those five items you have low carb nailed down.
I suppose you could still go overboard but it would be with healthier options like whole grains or beans, which are low GI/GL, and are not as likely to be overindulged in.
