Just cutting out 5 things: sugars/sweeteners; flour products; potatos; rice; and corn, is 90% of the whole low carb thing.

I think that if you can handle saying "no" to those five items you have low carb nailed down.

Do look up (in fact, buy or borrow) Neris & India Idiot Proof Diet: it has plenty of vegetarian options, and there are quite a few vegetarians on the pig 2 twig forum.

Personally, for the sake of variety, I also bought R. Elliot's "The vegetarian low-carb dieter", which may be of interest to you. But, seriously Frances, you are one lucky girl to just have half a stone to lose!

I only want to lose somewhere up to half a stone, but my main target is to get back the little 6 pack I used to have until a couple of years ago.

Anyway, I am now mainly vegetarian, which means I have to source my proteins well etc. and I love pasta / rices / vegetables / carbs in general. I found it interesting what you've all been saying about the Atkins Diet and the Neris / India diet (which I've not heard of be...

Reply by Paola Fanutza

thanks Lisa and Tulip: feel reassured and reconnected.

Thanks for the tip on Yorkshire Tea - I've been drinking Rooibos with a little bit of double cream, which I can also use in decaff coffee (there are some wonderful ones out there: Illy, Lavazza & others) and also in cooking.

For anyone on the IPD desperate for a cuppa - Yorkshire Tea do a decaff and it isn't bad with lactose free milk and that is coming from someone who drinks 8 cups of builders tea a day.

Well done on your weight loss. I agree re the breath and found lots of water and brushing helped but you are more aware of it as an issue. I have taken a multi vitamin but no other supplements and only had headaches for one or two days but feel really good since then. I have been doing it for 7 weeks and have lost 9lbs despite a couple of lapses due to birthday etc. Do you take exercise?

Luckily I didn't get any of the headaches (but I always dranks decaf tea and coffee before, so perhaps that explains that), and I haven't had any constipation. I've had a busy weekend and have still been good. I was disappointed as I have only lost 2lbs this week. I have stuck to the diet and expected to do better. I went out to dinner at a friends house on Saturday and they all had Indian Takeaway, I had a tupperware dish of salad and sardines. I spent a lot of the evening polishing my halo!
