I would love to do yoga, but I am a little worried that I wouldn't be able to manage some of the exercises. A few years back I broke my arm very badly, bending it back at the elbow completely the wrong direction, breacking the head of the radius and catastrophically tearing or stretching the tendons and ligaments. I had to have physiotherapy and, although they told me I wouldn't be able to fully straighten my arm ever again, I worked so hard with it that I managed to be able to.
I used to go to some great classes that focused on cardiac fitness but with a good quantity of upper body strength stuff thrown in. I liked this because I am tall, tend to shave to stoop over things such as desks and worktops and it really relaxed and strengthened my arms, shoulders and back. Since the accident, I can't 'lock' my elbow, so things like press ups or anything where I have to support my weight with my arms isn't possible. I also find that the damaged arm gets very sore quickly when I lift or carry weights, even shopping bags. When I use free weights, I have to stop when my damaged arm starts to feel it, which means I haven't really done enough to work out properly.
Will I struggle with yoga on these grounds, or will it be OK?
