that must have been difficult! If it was Delia's was it from her recent series - bought pastry base and tin of Birds custard?? Old joking! I really adore egg custard tarts - I really love the ones from M&S.

Reply by Fiona C

Quoting: jakiGet my eggs from a local farm and they are so delicious and fresh!!

I visited friends in the country this afternoon and they gave me some eggs from their own hens. Don't usually buy eggs, but am going to have scrambled eggs on toast tomorrow as a treat!

The bad news is, Jan always bakes for afternoon tea, so I was looking forward to a nice home-made scone. However, she was trying out Delia's custard tart recipe, so I was forced (!!!) to eat a HUGE custard tart, that ...

Reply by Jaki T

I heard recently that too many eggs a week a bad for you - anyone know why? I too love eggs, my current fave is 2 poached eggs on dry thick toast (preferably made with wholemeal bread containing many seeds). I love the runny yolks.

It's a fab quick and healthy tea for my 2 children as well - daughter loves poached eggs, son an omelette with cheese (and tomato sauce)! William you'd probably be better cutting out the bacon as it's got a lot of saturated fat in it. Why not try toast and eggs OR toast and beans with your yogurt - you need to have some calcium and you'll get that from the yogurt.

The carbs, even complex ones, are easily taken up and blood sugar rises, then drops again making you hungry. Try adding a bit of protein - a couple of boiled aggs and a slice of wholemeal toast always keeps me full until well after noon and don't raise blood sugar as quickly or as high. Porridge is good too, yum....

Reply by Jaki T

Daisy I've lost a stone and a half since Christmas but eat 3 meals a day, starting with a huge bowl of porridge (see porridge thread for ideas) made with water. I have heard other people say similar things, so I'm not sure you're stranged! Try eating a bit later, perhaps? If I had breakfast at 6.30 I'd be hungry again by 10! Can you eat when you get into work, like Pixie suggested -- or even on the way into work if you have a long commute?

I've got some suggestions for breakfasts on the run here, if you're interested:

Since joining this group i have started to eat alot more fruit and drink up to 2.5ish litres of water aday and i have taken up to walking everywhere or as much as possible, i don't really eat breakfast and if i do it depends on what mood i'm in,the other day it was 3 weetabixs with skimmed milk and a chopped banana. I am on friday going to do a basic yogalates class....

Reply by Julia Webb-Harvey

Hi Suzanne,

There doesn't sound anything wrong with your breakfast!! It may sound a strange question, but are you drinking enough liquid? The mind can confuse signals, so it's possible you're body is thirsty, rather than hungry.... Or maybe not!! If not, a wee snack, but a planned one! Less danger of reaching for the choccy machine!

Are you able to eat breakfast at work? I take a yogurt and some fruit in and have it when I feel hungry rather than force some toast down me at 7am and then feel starving at 11. A small tub of nuts or seeds or an apple as Fiona suggests is a good mid morning snack (and are low GI so should keep you going longer than a bag of crisps)

or try a protein based brekkie - scrambled eggs, omelette, poached eggs with 1 slice wholemeal toast, think variety is important. hope this helps ...

Reply by Fiona C

Suzanne - try taking an apple to eat about 11 and see if that gets rid of the hunger.
