Hi Rich
Vodka and gin are lower in calories if you must have alcohol - as long as its mixed with low cal coke/lemonade/tonic water.

Hi Rich,
Surely if you stick to drinking only at the weekends, that's going to be good? Personally I'm hanging on for a decent beer - but I don't know when that will be. I must admit the pounds have fallen since I stopped drinking!
Good luck

Well, if there weren't any beers to look forward to at the weekend, then what.......?
We all deserve a treat, just made harder that they (pints) look silly on their own, look so much more correct when there is at least two of them....cheers.

There have been recent reports that say up to 14 units of alcohol per week are GOOD for you. A survey showed that people who did no exercise and drank a little were less likely to suffer from a form of heart disease than those who did no exercise and didn't drink a little. Will see if I can find the original article.

A little alcohol combined with a healthy active lifestyle may be the best recipe for a longer life. A European Heart Journal study suggests the combination can cut the risk of heart disease

May I just chip in that, as a beer drinker, I've always been consoled by scientific reports that beer, unlike most spirits, is a good source of antioxidants, B vitamins, and something silicic acid that's meant to keep your cells plump and youthful. Of course all this is being promoted by the beer industry. And beer does make you fat. But it's got some benefits that the ol' G&T hasn't.

It makes me feel better knowing everyone feels pretty much the same! All i can say is if it's better for medieaval serfs to drink beer than water, then count me in!

Beer is around, what, 200 cals a pint? You never have one, do you, so that's probably getting on for half your day's energy needs coming only from beer every Friday and Saturday (well, for us it is).
Beer makes you hungry for kebabs too, and weakens your resistance.
Our strategy now is to arrive at the pub a bit later than usual (missing one pint, saving 200 cals). Then have a pint of 'diet' first (that's another 200 cals saved). Then we're allowed 2 pints or so before closing.
We've been to the pub, we've had some beers, we're merry but not
p!shed, and we've only "wasted" 400 cals not 800. Oh, and we bike or walk to the pub instead of bussing (another 200 saved).
