We're aiming to lose 2 pounds a week, so it makes sense to weigh in weekly.
Once a week, on the same scales in the same clothes. Other Half uses B00ts machine every Sat, but decided to weigh herself on a different scale on Friday...and was distraught at having gained 2 pounds! had actually lost 3, so the scale was a whole five pounds different to our usual one.

I personally weigh first thing every morning for the same reasons as Leah above. In Feb I went up by 2lb on my 'weigh in' day from the days before and after, so I knew it wasn't a genuine weight for that week.

Id agree with Tree Hugger above, I try to weigh every week at the same time of day wearing the same clothes. This way I dont get too obsessive ( when weighing every day i go round the bend!) with what my weight is doing every day, and at the same time I cant make excuses for myself - eg. "today Im wearing jeans, last week I was wearng a skirt", or "really thats because ive got 3lbs of lunch in my stomach". Also id add make sure its on the same surface! moving to carpet from tile can be a little confusing.
Clearly from this thread though its different horses for different courses!

I feel strongly that you should weigh yourself every day at the same time. You need to accept the fact that weight fluctuates - and deal with it (kindly). Then you are on the road to success.
Look at your progress weekly - then decide if you need to make minor adjustments to go in the right direction. Never aim big. Half a pound a week is still approximately 2 stone at the end of the year and easily achievable.
Stay positive. Get used to getting on the scales - and accept you are what you are the moments and you can only change the future.

How often do people think you should weigh?

Wendy, there's no "should" about it. Just do whatever you're comfortable with.

I do Weightwatchers online, so I log my weight once a week. I also log it on here at the same time. However, I sometimes weigh myself midweek as well, maybe if I didn't lose much the previous week. And if I don't like what I see on a Saturday morning, I weigh again on a Sunday!

Just remember your weight will fluctuate from day to day - sometimes quite a lot - so it's the long-term trend that's important.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. Weight does fluctuate and we need to accept that. The biggest problems is if our weight increases we tend to get a little upset about it.

I try to eat the same amount of cornflakes every day - I know the actual amount probably fluctuates a little but I dont make a big deal of it.

We should do the same about our weight - if we have done anything to suggest it should be moving up (yet it does) lets not get too upset. No doubt it move down again later in the day.

Cheers

I agree with the poster above - do whatever works for you.

If weighing once a week or once a month works, then do that. I have to say that I really need to weigh myself every morning (naked and after going to the loo), BUT I also know my body very well, and know that (for example) if I eat a chinese takeaway I will tend to go up by a couple of pounds for the next couple of days due to the high salt, or I will go up temporarily if I've had a lot of extra food. I also monitor fat percentages and I am happy if the weight stays the same if the fat percentage reduces.

I used to be very obese, but have lost somewhere between 9 and 10 stone and have kept it off now for about 2.5 years like this. If I don't hop on the scales it usually means I'm avoiding knowing my weight and that's usually bad news.

For me, daily weighing is the only way I can stay on top of my weight problem.
