Quoting: Phleep My goals are as follows:
1) Lose 5 kg by Dec 15th
Hi Philip - welcome to THC.
Have a look at the topic called 10BC - some of us decided a few weeks back that we'd aim to lose 10lbs by Christmas - hence 10 Before Christmas. Your 5kg sounds like roughly that amount, so you might want to join in the banter on that thread (although I think we went a bit off topic and started talking about chips the other day! )
Is there something special happening on 15 December?

How's it going peeps? Thinking especially of those trying to lose the booze.
I'm husbandless this weekend, so no-one wafting glasses infront of my nose and making brandy coffees! So much easier to be stronger!
He's an accountant and quite tight with money, so disapproves of eating out or take aways. So in my true to form, rebellious nature, I drove to the local (12 mile round trip!) Tandoori last night for a delicious take away curry for the teenagers and me. That meant I didn't have anything to drink as I had to drive, and then wasn't tempted when I got back, so another alcohol free Saturday! Hurray!
We've burried all the cartons at the bottom of the bin to hide the evidence! TeeHee!

Tut Tut. but lol
Quoting: susanreed so another alcohol free Saturday! Hu
Well done Sue on alcohol free weekend!
My goal this week was to be alcohol free in the week and have a couple at the weekend. But for some funny reason had nothing last night but did have a few on Friday as was at the Good Food Show. (had to sample the wines)
So one day of drinking for me was very good.

I agree it was great!!!
We had VIP Tickets so everything was easy with no queuing. Got a nice goody bag to take away with some real good things in it.
The food was First class and now I've got a list of 1/2 dozen restaurants to try out.

Strange isn't it, when a weekend evening goes past alcohol free without you even trying? I love it!

I have one of those as well!

I've never been to one of these - I was going to go this year, but I've been told I can carry my holiday over into the next holiday year (our holiday year finishes at the end of this month), and I need it for the time off I am having over Xmas, so I'm not going now. They did look quite interesting though.
PS - it's good to put a face to the name at last Carol!

I have to say that I find all this talk of alcohol quite strange - it's something that has never ever bothered me, or my husband. We never drink in the house (I have 3 bottles of wine from last Christmas untouched, and the last lot of alcopops we bought went out of date...), and even when we go out neither of use drink. I'm not against it, or teetotal or anything, it's just something that's never appealed really.
If I'd drank as well as eaten what I used to, I would have been twice the size I was!!

Does that mean that I'd be half my size if I hadn't binge drunk for years?

Who knows!?
I just am grateful that as well as spending all that time overeating, I didn't drink a few hundred more calories each week on top! Be grateful for small mercies I say!

All the drink, all the calories, all the cash down the drain.... what would I tell my younger self now?
(probably do the same, but take more chances!)

Hi All
Managed the weekend with 2 glasses of wine on sat and Sunday with dinner. Not bad as I was on my own hubbie away so it was tempting.
Carol lovely pic of you at last! The Good Food show sounded good.
I agree that if I had known in my 20's what I know now life might have been different less partying...! Still your only young once! My oldest son at uni is certainly partying fo me now!

Me too!! With good reason though as I can be a bit of a spendaholic at times. Now my hours have gone down I'm in 'bargain' mode and you often find me in the Coop or Somerfield for their 75% off bargains!! Off to M&S food, Tesco, etc tomorrow for Christmas shopping - retail heaven for me!!

I'm with you Sue! Sometimes letting your hair down is the best medicine.
This weekend I had a few G&Ts. The problem is as I rarely drink now I lost the feeling in my top lip very quickly.

Congrats Saira! What an achievement. I've yet to get passed 4 days in a row ;)
What's this 21 days thing Sue? Is that the 'official' time it takes to shake off an old habit?

Yes, apparently if you do something new 21 times, it becomes a habit! It worked for me - gave up booze for 21 days and have completely revolutionised my drinking habits. What's more, I don't even miss it! Mind you, I had sickened myself previously and had drunk enough over one weekend to last a year.

hm, haven't tested it yet (though I've given up smoking twice for 2 month and still couldn't get rid of the habit, maybe it's different for physical addictions?). I think it'll be a little while yet til I feel brave enough to try the 21 days remedy with booze...

...don't put off till tomorrow what you can do today! I've just resurrected the "Motivational mantras" thread - have a look Judith, choose your favourite, then stick it on a large sheet of paper somewhere that you'll see it all the time!

I don't think it ever leaves you Judith! You just have to make up your mind that you've had enough and decide never to smoke again. I smoked ciggies from the age of 18 to 36 and gave up overnight with the help of Allen Carr's method. Mind you, substituted one addiction for another! Now working hard to be free from all vices!
Am pleased to report that I've been alcohol free all week, and intend to be very sparing with booze over the weekend.
We're out tonight at a gig - the kid's first concert at a local pub, but will have to drive the kids, drum kit, guitars, sax, etc so no drinking for me! Glad to have the excuse if I'm honest!
Have also bought no more booze with shopping, so only have a dribble of gin left. There's one bottle of wine in the rack for hubbie, but I'm giving wine a wide berth at the mo as it really doesn't like me!
Wishing all those on the journey to kick booze habits the best of luck.

Thoroughly enjoyed my night out last night on double grapefruit juices! - much better than J2O as I find that full of sugar and additives. Watched those getting mortal and felt happy not to be one of them! A friend, dancing on a chair, wobbled and reached out to hold onto me, trouble is, she grabbed my left boob! A funny moment!
