Can it be added to the list please?

I spend 2 hours once a week rehearsing for an amateur opera production - hard work; how many calories burned? - anyone any idea?

Jane

I hate to disappoint you, but I spend FAR more than 2 hours a week singing and don't lose any weight. I have two good friends who are both professional singers and who are about twice my size.

Perhaps if you are in a very active role - dancing etc. - then some of the two hours could be counted as aerobic exercise, but I doubt if you are fully active for the whole 2 hours every week.

What is the opera you're in? Where/when is it on?

Hi Fiona,

I was just hoping I could add the calories burned to my total for that day, every little helps! If musical instrument playing counts then singing should!

Its http://www.operaatbearwood.org.uk/page4.html, I have just joined so it's a bit of a challenge for me!

... that looks like fun. Are you in the chorus or do you have a part?

Have you seen ENO's Madam Butterfly that's on just now? My friend Karen's playing Suzuki and I wanted to go, but there are only 3 seats left on the one evening I can manage, and the cheapest is £78!

I'm in the chorus, it's a new thing for me! A friend asked me and I decided to give it a go.

Dear Singers
I sing in a Bucks choral choir rehearsal an hour and a half each week and have noticed only increase in breathing but no loss of calories! However it makes you happy!
