I`ve been weaing the times pedometer and another one I already had for a couple of hours whilst shopping this afternoon.
One showed 1298 steps, the other a mere 428!
Now which am I supposed to believe??!!

Janet - wear them both again tomorrow, but make sure this time you walk 1299 and 429 steps respectively!! A little further each day. Of course we could all just count every step in our heads, that will, at the same time, illiminate any bad cravings!!

Looks like the overall verdict is that the pedometres are pants so maybe if anyone has got a really good one they could let us know i read an article that recommened not to go for the really cheap ones or the most expensive ones .It said the tanita ones are probabley the best value for money at around £15 has anyone got one?

Quite: I'd go with the larger number

Maybe one's calibrated for a hamster and the other for a horse???

Oh dear. So sad to hear that these pedometers have the same problems as ones I've tried in the past. Had one that came as a freebie with some supposedly healthy breakfast cereal, seemed like a good idea but I couldn't cope with the noisy rattling sound. Was hoping the Times would provide a better one! I know a pedometer is not necessary, just thought it could help motivate me to walk more - get my competitiveness involved.

By the way, if anyone signed up and didn't see anything about a pedometer they were probably signing up after the offer expired - as far as I remember it was only on offer if you signed up by 11 January - that's actually why I signed up then.

If anyone can recommend a good pedometer that doesn't rattle I'd be really interested to hear!

(2) for a Times review of pedometers, see this page

Hope these help

Well -as we haven't had a reply from anyone on the times team I guess that means there is nothing we can do about the pedometers that don't work (which sounds like everyone that has tried them) come on Times team where is your support on this??

I would rather have had the 12 tracks that they are promoting now.

I think you still can have the 12 tracks as well - it gave me an option to download them. (and I've got the pedometer)

Berale - in answer to your question about a good pedometer I found one on the Tanita website it is bit costly compare to others i have seen but it is a new type that you can put in your pocket or round your neck &seems work on a different system than the usual ones I'm hoping my hints to my hubby might be heard & he will get it for me for my birthday thats coming up!

I received my pedometer last Saturday, it was very tacky and rattled a lot. It only counted about 1 in 5 steps (yes I tried moving its position). By Sunday it became very annoying as I started to sound like a metronome and it ended up in the bin!
I will just continue walking regularly and stick to the time spent rather than the number of steps.

Mine had a 'spare battery' Ron, or so I assumed as mine works as a step counter as soon as I put it on.

A bit clicky but actually got used to that quite quickly and is about 99.95% accurate. I couldn't set other parameters but it works pretty well as a FREE step counter.

I am buying a Sports Heart Rate Monitor Watch will do just about everything else, and to be fair to the Times club, decent ones of those are going to cost upwards of £50.

But as to where to put battery, spare or otherwise.... pass!

Pedometers! Pshaww!!! Mine doesn't work, so assume it needs a battery. Have the battery where does it go? (No, the obvious answer is not the one I'm looking for.) Please, someone must know.

Mine came with the battery already inside, and a spare battery. I didn't need to put the battery in, cos I think you need to unscrew some bits to do that...

See my earlier post about the pedometer I was given. Glad I am not the only one who lost or nearly lost one down the loo. The attachment for my Omron is great. There is a clip you can slot the counter into to clip it onto your waist but it also has a string and strong small clip so that you have a safety attachment a bit like a safety chain on a brooch. This one also does not rattle as it does not use the balance mechanism. This means that you can hang it round your neck, put in on a waist band, put it in your pocket or even have it in your clutch bag. I am delighted with it.
I gave the Times one to my husband to try to encourage him to see just how little exercise he is taking but he can't get it to accept the weight input and is not sure that it has accepted his stride length either. However, I guess it will count steps which is what it is really for and, what do you expect for free. If you really want a good one pay for it. Mine was just under £30 so you definitely don't need to spend as much as £50.
I am really sold on pedometers because, as I say, it does encourage me to do more walking than I would otherwise do.

Hello! My pedometer has arrived, but, like Catherine, I don't really see the point of it as you cannot set your stride on it. I wore it with my usual one and it came out at almost half the number of strides! I don't think that the pedometer is not working, just that this is the type it is! Not very useful unfortunately. I hope that Claire from The Times is reading all these adverse comments! All the best, Jeannie.

Fran, what type of Omron pedometer do you have? I'm looking at getting a good one, but I'm not sure what to get, what you describe sounds perfect.
Although the Times review and other comparisons are useful, they never mention whether the pedometers are noisy or not! Or how well they clip on.
Anyone else have any recommendations?

Someone please help!! There MUST be a way of putting in a battery without disassembling the bloomin' thing. And that's just to see if it works!
I think Omron appeals-- £15 or not. Anyway I like the name as my name is Ron and I habitually chant Ohm during my Yoga sessions -so there!

Well Fran, you've definitely sold it to me!

(see Fran's more detailed post here)

As far as I'm concerned a pedometer that doesn't rattle when you walk and that doesn't have to be clipped onto your waistline sounds well worth the price.

I have not received the edometer. I did not get a battery. i got an empty envelope. Either my postman fancied it or - as the envelope had never been sealed , the mailing house did not complete the job correctly.

When I signed up the 12 free tracks were on offer. I immediately clicked through to them and a message came up saying the offer had ended. A bit of a swizz there.
