... having managed to lose 2 stones in the 6 months since I joined THC, I've set a new target to lose another 1.5 stones by New Year. Trying to be realistic, as I know it gets harder the more you lose!

Hello Times Health Club
Can you explain why some of our threads now start with a large white space at the top? It's a bit confusing as you don't realise there's anything there until you scroll down the page a bit. Only started happening about a week/10 days ago.

I have lost somewhere between 9 and 10 stone and (even better) have managed to maintain this long term. I currently run between 20 and 25 miles a week, and go to the gym. I am currently training for the Great North Run in October..

That's my point - I do like to get an email so I know when someone has posted, but then you continue to get emails every time after that too.
Most other sites send you one for the first post only, and no more until you actually visit the thread.

After 16 weeks as a member of TTHC and nearly 18 weeks along my path to a new old life style, I have now reached the half-way mark with regard to my weight correction. It has not been an unpleasant journey and time has sped by. It's been great to have the support of other members and the fact that we are such a mixed group of people has brought with it reflective moments as well as inspirational ones. I am now progressing to my satisfaction towards being able to call myself a runner; not yet there but with very few minutes of walk in a 30 minute set. It feels good to be active again and I'm getting to like the feel of being inside this body better.

Oh dear!
Ticking the box was my new 'give it a go' for today. I have set myself a none weight related goal of trying to learn something more about the site 2 or 3 times a week.
Looks like I'm going to get loads of notifications now instead of the one I was expecting.

Duh! Thought you just hadn't realised about the box. Yes I realised early on it was easier just to have a quick scan down the list and see what's being talked about!

In my 50s, taken early retirement and fled to Highlands. Want to lose at least 4 stone: 39 lb down. Share home with dog and cat. Love walking, and get out on hills whenever I can. Successfully completed midnight Edinburgh Moonwalkin June: first time have ever walked 26 miles in my life. Been overweight pretty well all my life: started as 10.5 lb baby and was 10 stone by age of 10. I briefly managed to get down to 9.5 stone in my late 20s, but weight has gradually crept up over years, especially when I stopped smoking. I am very active walking wise - but I do have the luxury of having taken early retirement and owning an active dog who I generally walk for at least 1.5 hours a day. Plus I live in the Highlands of Scotland, where the scenery is fantastic... However, I know that if I don't lose weight soon I am heading for joint and other health problems. So have set myself a series of mini-targets for weight loss and now working towards my fourth - 20% loss of bodyweight.

To help you towards your goal of learning 2-3 new things about THC: go back to the page, and click on "unsubscribe" to switch off the e-mail notification for every message posted. This facility is useful for Forums without much traffic, or where you're waiting for an answer to a question you have posted. But hopeless for Ab Fab where you could receive hundreds of email notifications a day!

I do find it handy for people posting on the more obscure or old threads that might then quickly disappear again.

Hi Em - or anyone else at THC. This large white space at top of threads is becoming more common. I suffer from slow connections (can't get broadband), and I've got no way of knowing whether page is take age to download or it's another case of the mystery white space syndrome. See for example http://www.timeshealth.co.uk/93_1110_0.html

I am 65 years old and live in Perth in Scotland. I am a retired headteacher who has piled on a stone and a half since stopping work! I am married and have one son who is a Sports Editor in London. I go swimming every morning at 6.30 a.m. for 45 minutes as I did this when I was working and have managed to keep it up. I like to walk and on a nice day can manage my 10,000 steps quite well. Perth is a lovely city to walk in - situated on the River Tay. I love to cook and have friends in for dinner so reckon this is part of my downfall but at my age, I reckon life is all about seeing friends and keeping well! I finally reached my target weight on 20th May - woweeee!! Have not been this weight for many a year and do intend to stick at it now. Many thanks due to the THC team and to Abfabs in particular!

I'm glad that this is not only occuring on my computer Jackie! I find it most disconcerting and I am on broadband, so it doesn't seem to be anything to do with that. It also says on my home page that I have no contacts - well, where have they all gone?!!

Sorry to hear about that white space. Jackie, can you tell me what group the thread you sent a link for is please?
We will look at that issue.
Jeannie, we'll also look at your contact issue.
Sorry Emm, no progress on the "tracking back to Jan" am afraid. We're still working on it though.

Quoting: emarvy white space. Jackie, can you tell me what group the thread you sent a link for is please?
It's Ab Fab group. Quite a few threads have this white space at top, eg
http://www.timeshealth.co.uk/93_1118_0.html
http://www.timeshealth.co.uk/93_1106_0.html
http://www.timeshealth.co.uk/93_1126_0.html
Sometimes the white space is just one first page of thread, sometimes on every page....
What I haven't checked is whether once there is a big white space there is always a big white space, or whether it's just for that session. But what I do know is that an increasing number of threads are appearing with long white space at top. Hope that is helpful. J

Have entered a mini triathlon on September 21st. Training was going well, till I pulled a calf muscle, it is improving by quite a bit. Only 2 weeks to go now. I will do it, I will be able to complete it. But this also where the self doubt creeps in.

Thanks Jackie,
We'll look into the white space issue but it doesn't seem to happen when i use Mozilla so until we fix the problem may be you can use Mozilla as your preferred browswer? You can safely download it for free on www.mozilla.com.

... we're ALL getting the white spaces, and it happens all the time now - even when we start a new thread. I don't think it's feasible for all THC members to change their internet browser to something else - will that not mess with all the other things we use our computers for?

No Fiona there isnt' any risk that it will mess up anything on your computer. It's just a much better browser and very easy to install. I do understand if you don't want to change anything but am just trying to suggest something that will have immediate affect.

Thanks for update Em. I'm reluctant to download another browser (even assuming I can, because without broadband, most software is too large for me to download) because in my experience there always seems to be a conflict with existing software. As it's an irritating fault rather than one that stops us using the forums, I suspect most of us will continue to curse until you manage to work out what suddenly happened with the forums that led to the mysterious appearance of white space in IE

Not sure what you mean Alison. When you try and change your target date it says: "I want to achieve this in" and you can then put the number of days or a specific date (in whatever format you want)

Hi everyone,
Very happy to say that the time difference should now be adjusted and the time you use and that is displayed on the Times Health Club should now be correct.
Also happy to say that anyone who was having problems using the diet sliders in IE7 shouldn't have any issue anymore.
We're still looking at the other problems you're raise before and we'll be updating you as soon as we solve them.
Best,
Em

I tried to set a new target date of 31/12/08 - but the message I get is invalid time. But if I set the date to 12/31/08 (American format) then its accepted.
As I asked why ?

Me again,
Some of you had problems inviting people to join a group. Well that's been fixed so feel free to invite all your friends to join in.
Some of you (hopefully a different set of people) were experiencing problems with motivator requests e-mails not being received. Well, again we've fixed that problem.
Best,
Em
