In my 50s, taken early retirement and fled to Highlands. Want to lose at least 4 stone: 39 lb down. Share home with dog and cat. Love walking, and get out on hills whenever I can. Successfully completed midnight Edinburgh Moonwalkin June: first time have ever walked 26 miles in my life. Been overweight pretty well all my life: started as 10.5 lb baby and was 10 stone by age of 10. I briefly managed to get down to 9.5 stone in my late 20s, but weight has gradually crept up over years, especially when I stopped smoking. I am very active walking wise - but I do have the luxury of having taken early retirement and owning an active dog who I generally walk for at least 1.5 hours a day. Plus I live in the Highlands of Scotland, where the scenery is fantastic... However, I know that if I don't lose weight soon I am heading for joint and other health problems. So have set myself a series of mini-targets for weight loss and now working towards my fourth - 20% loss of bodyweight.

CHANGE OF NAME
Times TEam - would it be possible to change the system to allow two changes of name, rather than one? I'd rather not been showing with first and surname. I did try to change it once, but aborted because it insisted on a surname. This seems to have been logged as my permitted one name change, and I cannot now alter. Or is there any way you can make a name change for me?

I have a one year old little girl and I can't seem to be able to shift the 10 kgs that i still had on once i'd given birth. Since i've had Ella, i haven't been able to find time to get back to cycling and swimming and i find it hard to cook healthy and quick meals for myself. I'd lost some weight when i was breastfeeding but have gained some now so really want to do something to stop gaining weight and going back to the weight i had when i was childless.

Hi Shaun,
I use Firefox as well and the calorie slider works fine. There is a calorie text box next to it for you to input an exact number of calories manually. Does that not work either?

Hi Shaun,
I use Firefox too and the sliders work fine for me. Don't know what the problem is, but it's not a browser issue.

Since giving up more strenuous activites due to back pain etc. I seem to be changing shape and getting heavier! This is despite going on active walks most days, and eating sensibly. If I don't lose it now, then I'll need to go up a clothes size, and fear there will then be no going back!
I'm really happy to have reached my goal - my new goal is simply to maintain it! If I can do this despite any social distractions which crop up then I'll consider it's 'job done'!

4 and a half stone to lose - sounds far too difficult! So 2 lbs a week then - this sounds better.
I used to run a lot but a knee injury meant I had to stop and do something else, but I hated cycling (NO sense of balance) and hated swimming (had to cut off all my hair because it took so long to dry).
I walked the Pennine Way from March to October last year - so I'm not entirely unfit. But I need to "eat less and move more".

Hi All - apologies for the groups directory going blank this morning - you can access the groups via http://www.timeshealth.co.uk/groups-all - the navigation issue will be resolved shortly.
Thanks for your patience.

Quoting: jackiewilson Object errors
Several of us in "50 Plus" group are having problems with sending messages. We key in message to one of our contacts and then click on "send" and it comes back "object error": nothing gets sent and our text is lost. Also get this when using "reply" to a message from our contacts. Doesn't happen every time send messages, but irratingly often. And once it happens, tends to happen three or four times consecutively. Fault appeared about last Thursday or Friday.
No response from Times Team. Is anyone else having this problem? We continue to suffer from this intermittent fault - most annoying because you finish keying your message to contact, click on "send" and it disappears. It's making communication very difficult - so much so, that I feel like setting up a new email account with hotmail or such, and using that to communicate with my buddies in the group. We are trying to support and motivate each other, but end up pulling out our hair!

Hello! I live in on the outskirts of NE London. I've lost 2.5 stone since May 07. I've got 1st 7 to go. I've given up sugar products for good and I'm collecting the various monthly challenges which are proving to be great habits! Here's to a healthy 08 and beyond!

CAN THE HOUR DIFFERENCE PROBLEM PLEASE BE ADDRESSED
I put my stats in for calories and exercise last night - as I like to do this every day - and because it was after 11pm it is logged as today (3rd of March). Can this be recified please as have now missed a day and I cannot enter todays stats. This is a really important feature of the site for myself and many others. Thanks!

Hey Tafford - I noticed the time difference when I joined 7 weeks ago. It is easier to just change the time zone (under 'about me') - I now live somewhere in the Azores -1GMT!!! Hope this helps.

Thanks for your replies, Emmanuelle and Marion. Sorry my reply's so late. I'm at college right now, and - like many colleges - computers use the inferior IE7 as the web browser. Though the sliders work fine here. I'll try at home again when I get back. As for the text box at the side, that's only for setting your own suggested calorie intake, right? I suppose I may have to resort to using IE6 for the sliders at home, if that works. :P

Hi THC administrators,
Any progress on being able to look at data entered under 'Track' since January? Really would like to know if my hips and waist have gone down.
Looking forward to an answer,
Emm

... having managed to lose 2 stones in the 6 months since I joined THC, I've set a new target to lose another 1.5 stones by New Year. Trying to be realistic, as I know it gets harder the more you lose!

... well I may as well add my gripe here too.
When you quote someone else, instead of coming up with their screen name (by which we all know each other), it comes up with their login name which (a) can be totally different and confusing as to who it is you've quoted and (b) could possibly be a confidential login name that people use for other purposes.
Can you change this so that the quote uses our screen name?
Fiona C
PS here's an example - I'll just quote Goesona Bit and you'll see what her login name is ...
Quoting: flowers Hi THC administrators
... when it should really say "Quoting: Goesona Bit"

Yes I agree with Fiona. It's very confusing. And in my case, I changed my name so only initial of surname showed, but my login name still shows my full surname.
It would have been better if, when we registered to use the website, it was made clear what would be displayed on the forums. Perhaps you have made this change now, but meanwhile us early (and faithful) users have no choice in what is being displayed...

Don't you have a 'friend' Fiona at the THC who can help?
And an old one - do I need to know who's contact with who, or who's commented on suchandsuch's page on my home page?

Thanks Em for that feedback. It's so frustrating when one posts details of things not working and hears nothing.... So just to know that you are aware of problem and working on it is appreciated
Incidentally, are you aware that Motivators Reports seem to have gone AWOL? They were working fine for me, but are no longer being sent. Once Tuesday has gone by, they are still on My Profile Page as to be sent with next week's report, but the date has shifted forward a week. This has been happening for about 3 weeks now.
