Chris, start the weights now. The more muscle mass you have, the faster you will lose weight. Have you had your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) calculated? This is the amount of calories the body uses each day just to survive before you start adding on exercise and movement calories. As you add muscle mass, not only will your clothes get looser because the muscles can hold your body shape better, but your BMR will increase by 7-10%. You may not notice much of a weight loss for a wh...

Reply by Ruth Smith

Well done everyone, I've lost 1st 8lbs since January. I have never kept to a diet for this long before, it's a combination of eating less excercising more and giving up alcohol (the only down side). I try a different diet every couple of weeks to keep from getting bored. I'm trying the food Doctor plan at present and have lost 3 lbs this week.

I've managed to lose 29lbs since the 1st week in January and have reduced BMI from 29.9 to under 26. I was feeling happy with myself about a month ago when I reduced my waist size from 36 to 34 and celebrated by splashing out on new clothes. Trouble is those clothes are now getting a little loose and baggy, not to mention my jewellery and wrist watch continually slipping off my wrist.
I have lost most of my weight through exercising for up...

Reply by Jaki T

Hi everyone

Since New Year I've lost 1 stone (at long last) after healthy eating (low fat), no meat only fish, along with swimming 4 or 5 times a week. Not only have I got back into my jeans, but I can get into clothes I haven't worn for a few years (when I lost weight last time!). I've also lost the rolls from my sides due to swimming - it's fab having a 'straight back' for the first time in a long while.

Regarding the swimming, I'm feeling fit enough...

Reply by Emily C

Well done everyone! My progress has been quite slow (only lost 8lbs since New Year) but I am noticeably fitter (previously I claimed I physically was unable to run) and clothes that were previously tight are now fitting a lot easier!

Still a way to go though..

Reply by Pippa Cotton

well done you 2!

I have been low carbing since 7 Jan and have lost 11 lbs and increased the exercise. Benefit loose clothes and more energy! I also ran for 20 minutes this week something I have not done since school!

Any other successes out there?

I just had to tie my sweatpants to keep them up as they are getting a bit loose!

I should follow Darrens example and get in to the gym!

Since joining a new gym 4 weeks ago (been going to a gym since 7th January) my resting heart rate has dropped by 10bpm, I've lost 3% body fat and I've gone down a trouser size. Since 7th Jan I've lost 25lbs so I'm really happy so far!

I'm also getting rather addicted to the gym too, going 4-5 times a week and working out for 2 hours each visit. One of the best addictions as far as I can see

As you say, it's hard but it is SO worth it!

i do have a moan sometimes about how hard this is, but when you start to get results it makes it all worthwhile.

my next goal is for these levis to hang off me, so i just have to buy some more!!
by the way, is size 32 an english 14?
