Have just bought my first pair of levi 501s!!!!!!!
have always wanted some and even better.... they were £4.50 off ebay!! yehah
i do have a moan sometimes about how hard this is, but when you start to get results it makes it all worthwhile.
my next goal is for these levis to hang off me, so i just have to buy some more!!
by the way, is size 32 an english 14?

That is superb!!
Since joining a new gym 4 weeks ago (been going to a gym since 7th January) my resting heart rate has dropped by 10bpm, I've lost 3% body fat and I've gone down a trouser size. Since 7th Jan I've lost 25lbs so I'm really happy so far!
I'm also getting rather addicted to the gym too, going 4-5 times a week and working out for 2 hours each visit. One of the best addictions as far as I can see
As you say, it's hard but it is SO worth it!
Keep going Jo, we want to hear about those new jeans falling down next!

Way to go Joanne and Darren!
I just had to tie my sweatpants to keep them up as they are getting a bit loose!
I should follow Darrens example and get in to the gym!

well done you 2!
I have been low carbing since 7 Jan and have lost 11 lbs and increased the exercise. Benefit loose clothes and more energy! I also ran for 20 minutes this week something I have not done since school!
Any other successes out there?

Well done everyone! My progress has been quite slow (only lost 8lbs since New Year) but I am noticeably fitter (previously I claimed I physically was unable to run) and clothes that were previously tight are now fitting a lot easier!
Still a way to go though..

Hi everyone
Since New Year I've lost 1 stone (at long last) after healthy eating (low fat), no meat only fish, along with swimming 4 or 5 times a week. Not only have I got back into my jeans, but I can get into clothes I haven't worn for a few years (when I lost weight last time!). I've also lost the rolls from my sides due to swimming - it's fab having a 'straight back' for the first time in a long while.
Regarding the swimming, I'm feeling fit enough to swim much further than I ever have before (50 x 50m on a good day). I still want to lose another stone though so I can wear anything in my wardrobe.
I still can't manage to get out of the swimming pool without massive red goggle marks though - any suggestions??

I'm very impressed with everyones efforts.
I've managed to lose 29lbs since the 1st week in January and have reduced BMI from 29.9 to under 26. I was feeling happy with myself about a month ago when I reduced my waist size from 36 to 34 and celebrated by splashing out on new clothes. Trouble is those clothes are now getting a little loose and baggy, not to mention my jewellery and wrist watch continually slipping off my wrist.
I have lost most of my weight through exercising for up to two hours a day, but I have noticed as my % of bodyfat reduces it is getting harder to lose the weight and I am gradually increasing the amount of time that I exercise on a daily basis. So far things are ok as I suspect my endorphins are carrying me through.
My aim is to lose another stone ( hopefully by the end of April ) and then to start lifting some light weights in order to tone the muscles up, as apart from being fat I also don't want to be look too thin

Well done everyone, I've lost 1st 8lbs since January. I have never kept to a diet for this long before, it's a combination of eating less excercising more and giving up alcohol (the only down side). I try a different diet every couple of weeks to keep from getting bored. I'm trying the food Doctor plan at present and have lost 3 lbs this week.

Well done all!!
Chris, start the weights now. The more muscle mass you have, the faster you will lose weight. Have you had your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) calculated? This is the amount of calories the body uses each day just to survive before you start adding on exercise and movement calories. As you add muscle mass, not only will your clothes get looser because the muscles can hold your body shape better, but your BMR will increase by 7-10%. You may not notice much of a weight loss for a while because muscles weighs twice as much as fat so as you increase muscle, it counteracts the fat loss (on the scales but not on the bosy). When you've increased your muscle mass more you will literally lose weight in your sleep!

I'm Posting this in a couple of threads because it is so freakin huge to me...
I had told myself that I would try on smaller pants for Easter as that was to be my switchover to a maintenance situation, but as I was running out of clean clothes, I just pulled out the 32 pants that I havn't fit in for more than a decade, and....
I JUST FIT INTO MY FAVORITE PANTS FROM COLLEGE!
(the ones I used to like to go clubbing in).
I am currently wearing a pair of pants that I wore when I was 19(!) and I'm an old fart now! Tht is 6+ inches off my waist!
That is a major milestone to me. I'm glad I did not throw them out as some diet articles say to do.
Thankyou all for helping me for the last couple of weeks. I'm sure that the maintenance stage will be tougher still though.

Well done Matthew, that is such a big achievement! I too have recently got back into some skirts that have been sitting dormant in the wardrobe for a year or so. I must admit I spent an evening just going through my wardrobe and trying on nice summer trousers (pants in US) and actually gettting into them again! It really does make your day, doesn't it? I'm very close to giving to charity my jogging trousers that I lived in pre healthy living regime!
The big achievement will be getting back into my posh dress that I bought when I got to my target weight a few years back. Another 12lb to go! And as for my wedding dress, I don't think I have a hope (that would mean losing 19lb!!).
Keep going with the weight loss/exercise - it's really worth it.

Jaki,
Quoting: jaki trying on nice summer trousers (pants in US
Actually I thought about using "trousers" for y'all. How ablut slacks?
12 pounds. 6-8 weeks. Can be done before beginning of summer.
Your wedding dress 19 lbs more after the posh dress, or 7 more after the posh dress?
You can do it!

7lb more. But don't know if that'll be 'underweight' (I wish!).
I have just gone into the top of my 'normal' BMI range but want to get to the middle as I reckon I am medium build. I don't know though what weight that'll be - just find out as I go along, or maybe find a website after I'm finished here. I'm actually 5' 3 and a half" but it won't let me put in the half bit.
BTW, don't try and type the number 'half' in ASCII code as it keeps going back to your computer's home page - this is my 3rd attempt at typing this!!!!

JAKI,
EXCELLENT!
Stay with it. 25 for medium build is still actuarily at elevated risk for coronary issues. Build is one of two main problems of using BMI, the other is that it does not take into account body composition (bodyfat %).
Joanne,
Quoting: jocandoit lets have a photo of you in your "pants" !
My profile picture is me in those pants yesterday! What do you say "Chuffed with myself(?)" Is that the term?
Quoting: jocandoit what's been your main weapon of fat destruction?
Tightly controlled diet, which is easy when you are living by yourself in the middle of nowhere. (No wonder I'm on here so much.)

everyone is doing so well, i'm really pleased at your successes!
I'm also very pleased with myself, having lost 1 stone 1 pound now, hurrah! and that's in two months, which i think is nice and slow enough to keep it off forever. (plus i'm 20 so it comes off quite quickly anyway). and i have been noticing the most important places being slimmer, it's so great to see.
anyone else getting great enjoyment from looking at the logged charts on here? i love it!

Lucy - i've lost the same as you - 1stone 1 lb. Still 2 stone 13 to go, but I love the fact it says 2 stone something to lose - not nearly as much as the 4 stone it was at the beginning!
Can't wait to be fit and slim enough to walk the Moonwalk in September, with the other members of Ab Fab who are doing it with me!
I'm loving being in control of things - well, most of the time, apart form the odd slip up!!'

Thought I'd share this as I am extremely pleased the way things are going.
Aprill 2007 I was 18.5 stone and feeling every ounce of it so I bought a treadmill.
Resting heart rate at this point was between 89 and 99bpm. Icouldn't run and walking was a chore. After two months of purely walking on the treadmill I lost about 5lbs, which although I was still 18 stone at this point it was enough to encorage me to keep going.
Anyway long story short my goal was to be 16 stone by April 2008. As the weight came slowly off I bought a heart rate monitor and started jogging out on the road. The result, well after weighing myself today I am now 15 stone 10lb. My resting heart rate is between 68 and 71 bpm and I'm doing a 10k run at the end of May. So if things continue to go this well I should easily make my overall goal of 14 stone before April 2009.
So keep at it. It does come off. It may be a slow process but don't give up!

Wow that is an achievement Graham. Well done! Have you done it through exercise alone, or have you changed your diet?
If you ever feel like giving up, just come on here and chat, or even read some of the nonsense the rest of us write!

Minor success for me today. Was at the nurse for my 3-yearly "women's thing" and got her to check my blood pressure. It's been getting worryingly high, despite the doctor doubling my medication.
The good news is that (a) got the wrong prescription so in fact I haven't been taking double the medication and (b) even at that, my BP is now down to normal!
Will probably start fainting next!

Hi Fiona C
I have changed my diet a little. I cut out sugar in tea and coffee, and I cut down on the beer quite considerably but mostly the excercise is the real reason for my sucess so far.
Thanks for the comment

Well done on the exercise and weight loss. It just goes to show that if you want to lose weight you have to exercise as well as eating healthily. I find the same with swimming.

Hello all! I just found this group whilst browsing and am so impressed with everyone's efforts - what a hero you are Graham and so very well done. I have lost half a stone this month so am very pleased as I 'only' had a stone and a half to lose! Am a third of the way there now! I go swimming every week day morning Jaki and try to do a mile. I have found the best goggles for not getting marks are those called a seal mask - bigger than the normal goggles, they do not leave those ugly red weals on your face! I buy mine in a water sports shop - I beleive Speedo do them too now.
Keep at it everyone - all the best, Jeannie

Quoting: jocandoit Have just bought my first pair of levi 501s!!!!!!!
LOL this is one of my main motivations also!! I have two brand new pairs in my wardrobe that I have never been able to wear.
5 stone 3 lbs down since Jan 1st, but unfortunately, still 3 stone 11 to go!
7" gone from my waist, but at least 3" more to go before I can wear them!
Congrats to all losers!!
Personally I find this site to be a phenomenal help and don't think I would have done so well, so far, without the support and encouragement from numerous folks on here.
Here's to a slimmer and more importantly, healthier future to us all!!
Cheers,
Simon

Thanks for that Jeannie, I'll look out for those. Have just got some new Speedo ones and because one eye kept leaking, I had to tighten them and now I've got the red marks again
Well done on the daily mile - that is some achievement first thing in the morning. A supply teacher in our school said he lost loads of weight just by swimming the mornings before work.
I'm training for the swimathon - 2.5km, which I've only just managed to do in the past month with this healthy lifestyle - I used to think 40 x 50m lengths was too much. There is a thread on the swimathon somewhere.
