Married with 2 children, Welsh, and I've made my target, today 24th July! The bigger struggle will be maintaining the healthy lifestyle of swimming, walking, cycling in conjunction with healthy eating, so I need the forums for encouragement.

Quoting: m519jjt what have you got planned for the summer holidays?
2 weeks in Menorca - lots of swimming to counteract tapas!
1 week camping on Gower
then lots of lie ins (or lies in?) and making a spontaneous decision about what to do each day. I loved the article in B&S last week of one parent who had planned her kids' summer in a spreadsheet! Ex accountant.

I started my 'lifestyle change' on Jan 1, after weighing myself at our local Boots and being so disgusted with myself that I could not stand it.
I have just had my 48th Birthday and have decided that I want to be 'Fit and fifty' not 'Fat and fifty'.
My ultimate goal is to trek the Himalyas for my 50th Birthday.

After 16 weeks as a member of TTHC and nearly 18 weeks along my path to a new old life style, I have now reached the half-way mark with regard to my weight correction. It has not been an unpleasant journey and time has sped by. It's been great to have the support of other members and the fact that we are such a mixed group of people has brought with it reflective moments as well as inspirational ones. I am now progressing to my satisfaction towards being able to call myself a runner; not yet there but with very few minutes of walk in a 30 minute set. It feels good to be active again and I'm getting to like the feel of being inside this body better.

In my 50s, taken early retirement and fled to Highlands. Want to lose at least 4 stone: 44 lb down. Share home with dog and cat. Love walking, and get out on hills whenever I can. Successfully completed midnight Edinburgh Moonwalkin June: first time have ever walked 26 miles in my life. Been overweight pretty well all my life: started as 10.5 lb baby and was 10 stone by age of 10. I briefly managed to get down to 9.5 stone in my late 20s, but weight has gradually crept up over years, especially when I stopped smoking. I am very active walking wise - but I do have the luxury of having taken early retirement and owning an active dog who I generally walk for at least 1.5 hours a day. Plus I live in the Highlands of Scotland, where the scenery is fantastic... However, I know that if I don't lose weight soon I am heading for joint and other health problems. So have set myself a series of mini-targets for weight loss and now working towards my fourth - 20% loss of bodyweight.

Wow what amazing before and after pictures - Catherine's right, to some extent the number on the scales is irrelevent, it's the measurements that show the difference. Having said that in my eyes you all look beautiful to begin with.

I am 65 years old and live in Perth in Scotland. I am a retired headteacher who has piled on a stone and a half since stopping work! I am married and have one son who is a Sports Editor in London. I go swimming every morning at 6.30 a.m. for 45 minutes as I did this when I was working and have managed to keep it up. I like to walk and on a nice day can manage my 10,000 steps quite well. Perth is a lovely city to walk in - situated on the River Tay. I love to cook and have friends in for dinner so reckon this is part of my downfall but at my age, I reckon life is all about seeing friends and keeping well! I finally reached my target weight on 20th May - woweeee!! Have not been this weight for many a year and do intend to stick at it now. Many thanks due to the THC team and to Abfabs in particular!

And this is me around 5 stones lighter in 2004.

Have entered a mini triathlon on September 21st. Training was going well, till I pulled a calf muscle, it is improving by quite a bit. Only 2 weeks to go now. I will do it, I will be able to complete it. But this also where the self doubt creeps in.

How far have you got to go Fiona?? To help keep you motivated stick a couple of them up in the bedroom. It has made me think twice, especially after posting that horrible pic of me in a bikini!
Why were you scowling anyway.

Fiona, you can do it again and it will be worth it. Don't lose the smile though, it's lovely. In the positive thinking month of July, are you putting up your target picture to motivate you? And the good news is that you are well on your way.

Start at one Fiona and see how it goes. Hubby said that I needed to loose at least 3 stone last year. I've only lost about half that, I think and now I'm going too far the other way?? I'm not skinny by any means, but in some ways I have lost body shape.

Fiona - well if I had only the photo of you taken 8 years ago, I would never have recognised you when we met outside the pub in Gartocharn - I would have walked straight past you! You look so much more like the superthin you of 4 years ago. Apart from the smile that is So keep up the good work - next summer you will be wearing that lovely linen top (unless, of course, you are willing to freeze this coming winter!)

What does he say now? Why don't you just work on consolidating your weight loss, toning up your body, for a few weeks and then see how you feel about losing more weight.

Its hubby who thinks I'm going too far the other way, I think I'm abought right but I need to tone up the belly area as it is very flabby. I don't take too much notice of clothing sizes these days as they can vary greatly.

Absolutely - I was trying to convince my son that a shirt he was trying on was better in the size up. He didn't like the thought of buying a shirt that was XL. This was in Abercrombie and Fitch (yes my all time pet hate) where XL fits 'just larger than anorexic'!! If the same shirt were in M&S I'm guessing it would be a small/medium no larger.
