Have entered a mini triathlon on September 21st. Training was going well, till I pulled a calf muscle, it is improving by quite a bit. Only 2 weeks to go now. I will do it, I will be able to complete it. But this also where the self doubt creeps in.

... having managed to lose 2 stones in the 6 months since I joined THC, I've set a new target to lose another 1.5 stones by New Year. Trying to be realistic, as I know it gets harder the more you lose!

Piled on the pounds in my final year and during my SE Asia travels... started work and comfort ate some more. Took action in the New Year and reached target on 18.06.08! See Before and After Gallery for photos.
I've got into outdoor running now, and did the City Race for Life which was great fun and now looking for more races to do.... this coming from someone who has spent the past 25 years claiming she was physically unable to run!
Update Aug 17: reached a bit of a plateau but haven't really been trying as hard, especially with a new job. We'll see..

After 16 weeks as a member of TTHC and nearly 18 weeks along my path to a new old life style, I have now reached the half-way mark with regard to my weight correction. It has not been an unpleasant journey and time has sped by. It's been great to have the support of other members and the fact that we are such a mixed group of people has brought with it reflective moments as well as inspirational ones. I am now progressing to my satisfaction towards being able to call myself a runner; not yet there but with very few minutes of walk in a 30 minute set. It feels good to be active again and I'm getting to like the feel of being inside this body better.

The mind boggles, Jackie. I take it that the others are starkers!
Fabulous difference, and lots of guts to share it. I've always run a mile when I see a camera, even at my slimmest.
Simon, Jackie, Jackie, Emily, and Sue, you all look healthy and so much happier. I am so glad that your hard work has paid off so well for you all.
I will hunt around and see if I can find anything horrific to pin up in the kitchen and scare myself. Not sure that I'll be able to find anything, but I'm inspired.

No my fat hangs out a lot more, and they are really horrible... It has taken a lot of guts to post it, and I'm still a bit camera shy. I don't know why but I seem to freeze when the lens is pointed at me.

Since joining the times Health Club in January, I've made big changes to my lifestyle. I've walked a marathon and made lots of new friends through the Ab Fab group. I've still got over 3 stone to lose, but am changing the bigger picture and have a much healthier attitude all round.
|
# Posted: 23 Jun 2008 20:40
Quoting: drechung What I adore in Sue and Simon's photos is the look of misery in the 'before' shot (no offence guys!), and the happy, glowing grins on the 'after' shot
No offence taken Emily! Even though I've only lost one stone, my attitude to life is changing, and I've loads more energy and enthusism for life. Before, I used to think I had far too much to do, and get really down, but now I still have loads to do, but just get on with it! In doing so, It isn't really that musch after all. Making time for myself, and for walking or the gym has been really important.
Em - get a picture up asap before you lose anymore, then you will have that to look back on 6 months down the line. You must be able to get one taken while you are on holiday!

In my 50s, taken early retirement and fled to Highlands. Want to lose at least 4 stone: 39 lb down. Share home with dog and cat. Love walking, and get out on hills whenever I can. Successfully completed midnight Edinburgh Moonwalkin June: first time have ever walked 26 miles in my life. Been overweight pretty well all my life: started as 10.5 lb baby and was 10 stone by age of 10. I briefly managed to get down to 9.5 stone in my late 20s, but weight has gradually crept up over years, especially when I stopped smoking. I am very active walking wise - but I do have the luxury of having taken early retirement and owning an active dog who I generally walk for at least 1.5 hours a day. Plus I live in the Highlands of Scotland, where the scenery is fantastic... However, I know that if I don't lose weight soon I am heading for joint and other health problems. So have set myself a series of mini-targets for weight loss and now working towards my fourth - 20% loss of bodyweight.

That is a fantastic transformation Jackie M. You must have been so pleased with yourself at your son's passing out ceremony. However, not so much of the gross: my "after" photo would be far worse than your "before" photo But in a year's time

Anyway, what I wanted to say was that I was so impressed with all these transformations. I'll have to show hubby the one of Simon to try and kick start him into getting into the healthy lifestyle again.
I'm not if I've got many of me at my biggest - the one that triggered me to lose the weight was of all us ballet mums taken backstage wearing our daughters' black affro wigs - if it's a normal photo I'm not sure how to get it on to here - I've got a scanner if that's any help.

You should be able to scan it into the computer, and then copy it across. I used photobucket it was quite easy.

I started my 'lifestyle change' on Jan 1, after weighing myself at our local Boots and being so disgusted with myself that I could not stand it.
I have just had my 48th Birthday and have decided that I want to be 'Fit and fifty' not 'Fat and fifty'.
My ultimate goal is to trek the Himalyas for my 50th Birthday.

Carol I found these instructions that Rabid gave us ages ago. If you're still having problems type "upload a photo" into the search box and it'll list the topics where you'll find something about uploading. I know a few people have given instructions at various times. Good luck
You need to use a host like Photobucket or Flickr to give you an URL (I used Flickr - you have to set up an account but it's free).
To get an URL you need to upload your picture and (if using Flickr) goto "show all sizes" choose "medium" and it will give you a couple of options. Pick the URL. Select and copy (CTRL C).
Click on the 4th icon above where you write your post (the little coloured symbols) and then insert your URL (paste - CTRL V).
The picture should then post. It won't show as a picture until you click the preview button.

I think those close to their target weight should congratulate themselves for getting to where they are, and realise that it is quite acceptable to stay there. Look on any further weight loss as a bonus
