Can anyone recommend any self help books that they have found inspirational. I am currently reading "Get off your Arse and lose Weight" which so far I am really enjoying. I have also just finished thin secrets which I found quite interesting as well.

"Get off your Arse and lose Weight": is that a real book???
Sounds like a good title for a tv programme
I'll have to look into that one...
I'm currently reading "Irrationality" which isn't a diet book at all, but does make me feel a little better at not controlling my weight for all those years.

Its actually very amusing and the author Steve Miller really tells it how it is
Another book I recommend is Stop Binging by Lee Janogly. Wonderful and again written with humour but it hits home.

Hi Cass
'French women don't get fat ' is a good read, looks at teh psychology of eating in every day ways, has some reciipes and loads of tips.
I read (and re-read) this not specifically for weight loss (though it has helped) but just for general information about food and eating.

I really enjoyed "Slimming with Pete" by Pete Cohen. Its a little bit off the wall, in that its not a slimming book per se, but has lots of roots in NLP, and again, the psychology of being slim.
It doesn't have recipes, or a diet that you follow - and is much more inspirational for it!

I would recommend Slim by Suggestion by Roz Collier and Georgina Foster. It deals with the emotional issues of over eating. I dont think it is available new but I recently got a copy from Amazon second hand.
Also Paul McKenna's I can make you Thin. Like others on this site I do not like the title as I dont want to be THIN, just a healthy weight, but I suppose it catches the attention.
I also find Rosemary Conley provides good advise and eating plans.

I read Paul McKenna "I can make you slim" and listen to his CD it is great. I lost 10 lbs very quickly. In my mind now weight loss is now more about your state of mind and mind over matter than worrying all day every day about what you eat and when.
Thanks for the other books mentioned though, think I will look out for these - anyway if they don't work at least when I am reading them I will not be eating or thinking about eating.
Keep smiling.

Hope you enjoy it Debbie. I do like his straight talking plus it is very amusing as well.
Thanks to everyone else for their suggestions. I have noted all that is mentioned and in time intend to work through them.
If anyone ever sees a book called How to eliminate Bread and White Wine from your life can you let me know

hey.!.i think he knicked the title of my book!...or at the very least got his ideas from when i used to post on dax moy's forum!!?..when my userID was "offyerbum"!!! ..i kid you not..!..but i do wish i'd written the book...just shows you what you can do if you put your mind to it...and "believe and you will achieve"
or how about .."how to eliminate tea from your life"...i'm having trouble with that..also with red wine..beer...
A book i do reccommend is The fat flush plan by ann louise gittleman...she's very scientific...and is a qualified nutritionist...although the first 2 weeks of the plan is very stringent...but it does work if you stick to it...this book was written in about 2001...and al the books written lately have taken up her ideas..
another book i reccommend is "potatoes not prozac" by..i cant remember her name...but it explains the chemistry behind sugar/carbohydrate/alcohol addiction and the emotional rollercoaster that goes with it.. and she advocates a sensible eating plan...
maybe we should start a post where we recommend books to read?>.
